Rita Classen JensenAug. 24, 1936 ~ Feb. 10, 2012Rita Classen Jensen, age 75, passed away February 10, 2012 surrounded by her family, after a prolonged battle with Lymphoma.Rita was born August 24, 1936 in Esbjerg, Ribe, Denmark, the daughter of Otto Henrik and Mette Marie Nielsen Classen. She immigrated to the U.S. from Denmark in 1957. She was proud to become a citizen of the United States and loved America. Rita married A. De Von Jensen in the Logan, Utah Temple, January 31, 1958. Rita and De Von lived for 17 years in northern California where they served as co-Presidents of the Holbrook Elementary School PTA in Concord, CA. They later moved to Salt Lake City in 1975. Rita worked at the LDS Church Office Building in the Real Estate Department for 23 years. She is a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings, including gospel doctrine teacher and Young Women's President. Rita and De Von served a mission in Copenhagen, Denmark, supervising the construction of the Copenhagen Denmark LDS Temple from 2002 until after its completion in 2004. She is a former member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir where she sang for 20 years from 1976 to 1996, and continued to serve on Temple Square and with the choir, upon returning home from her mission, until her passing.Rita enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, genealogy, embroidery, singing, playing the violin, traveling, church history and entertaining. She loved birds and has many bird houses.Rita was one of the carolers in the film "Mr. Krueger's Christmas". She was also featured in Ladies Home Journal magazine and quoted in the books "Notable Quotables" and "Holy Places".She is survived by her husband, A. De Von Jensen; daughters, Dianna (Steve) Fife, Deborah (Doug) Tingey, Denice (Ed) Skidmore; son, Alan D. (Stephanie) Jensen; grandchildren, Danielle, Braden and Taylor Fife, Sam and Mitch Tingey, Andrew, Tommy, Ben and Annalisa Jensen; sister, Yrsa Classen. She was preceded in death by her parents.Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16 at 12:00 noon at the East Millcreek 9th Ward, 3750 South Hillside Lane. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the ward and from 10:30 to 11:45 am prior to services on Thursday. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy.
