PLEASANT GROVE — Coach Mike Miller and his Riverton Silverwolves came to Pleasant Grove and completely closed down the Vikings on their home field to walk away with a 41-0 shutout win Friday night.

Coach Miller told his players beforehand: "This is a big game for us and we need to be ready to play our best."

That they were.

Riverton jumped all over Pleasant Grove in the first half — converting four touchdowns off four Viking turnovers — and never looked back en route to the convincing victory.

”I was pleased with the way the kids came out and played," said Miller. "They were ready for this game. When good things happen in practice, good things happen during the game. This is a big win for us.”

The win gives the Silverwolves a 1-1 record in Region 4, as they improved to 3-4 overall. They face Lehi next week. Pleasant Grove also now has a 1-1 record in region play and is also 3-4 overall. The Vikings travel to neighboring Lone Peak on Thursday to face the state's top team.

Riverton wasted no time getting going on Friday.

On the fourth play of the night, Riverton junior defensive back Albert Tai intercepted Pleasant Grove's quarterback and returned the ball 45 yards for a touchdown.

It was a sign of things to come, as the Silverwolves kept turning Pleasant Grove turnovers into TDs.

And Tai was in the middle of much of the action.

The junior defender spent as much time in Pleasant Grove’s backfield as the Vikings themselves did. He tackled the Viking’s quarterback for loss, had several hurries and two interceptions just in the first half.

“He is a good one. This is the first season he has been in our program. He is a transfer from Las Vegas and we have benefitted from that move,” said Miller.

Riverton eventually got the running clock going in the second half and coasted from there. The Silverwolves finished with 22 carries for 153 yards on the ground and impressively went 6 for 6 for 88 yards through the air.
