NINE MILE CANYON, Duchesne County — A Roosevelt man is dead following what investigators believe was an industrial accident at an oil field.
Water truck driver Cody Earl McMullin, 32, had been removing water from a pit at a location in the Wells Draw area of Nine Mile Canyon when he climbed onto the pump jack at the well site for some reason, said Duchesne County Sheriff's Sgt. John Crowley.
McMullin fell into the pump jack and suffered fatal crush injuries, Crowley said. The man's body was discovered by other oil-field workers when they arrived at the site Sunday morning.
The mishap could have occurred anytime between 12:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday, Crowley said.
“We are still actively investigating the incident,” he said, adding that there is no indication of foul play.
The Occupational Health and Safety Administration is also involved in the probe, the sergeant said.
