If the tried-and-true versions of "A Christmas Carol" are making you say "Bah humbug!" — maybe you should try the story as told by children.
The 50-person cast of the production is made up of members in the Utah Shakespearean Festival's Festival Playmakers Education Program. They range in age from 5 to 18. There are 30 child actors, 15 children in the chorus and 14 children in the orchestra.
Unlike many "Carols," this production, adapted by festival education outreach coordinator Mirana Giles uses the words of Dickens, taken directly from his classic tale.
In addition to the play, Giles plans to visit 30 Iron County classrooms and talk with more than 1,000 students to prepare them for seeing the show.
"A Christmas Carol," runs Dec. 17-18 at the Utah Shakespearean Festival's Randall L. Jones Theatre, 300 W. Center, Cedar City.
Shows being at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $3-$5 (800-752-9845 or www.bard.org.
