There are many people out there who don't have fireplaces.
My wife and I, for example.
One of our apartments used to have one, but the house we just bought doesn't.
This holiday season, we won't be hanging our stockings over the hearth or sipping hot cocoa by a fire.
However, we will be able to sit and sip hot cocoa by a bright and soothing digital flame.
But wait, there's more.
While we are warming ourselves through virtual reality, we'll be able to hear some classic holiday tunes from the likes of Johnny Cash, Kenny Chesney and Mariah Carey, to name a few.
How? Well, it's quite simple.
Legacy Recordings has created the Christmas Classics-The Yule Edition series that includes DVD versions of Cash's "Christmas with Johnny Cash," Carey's "Merry Christmas" and Chesney's "All I Want for Christmas Is a Real Good Tan."
Other artists who have been "Yuled" include Kenny G. ("The Greatest Holiday"), Johnny Mathis ("A 50th Anniversary Christmas") and Andy Williams ("The Andy Williams Christmas Album").
Other Yule-Edition DVDs include Il Divo's "The Christmas Collection" and John Denver's "Rocky Mountain Christmas."
In addition to the remastered audio of the artists' previously released Christmas music, celebrators can choose to view three scenes — a classic yule log burning in a fireplace; the interior of a rustic woodland cottage decked with a Christmas tree or the exterior of a snow-covered cabin.
While the scenes are peaceful, my favorite is the yule log.
While the DVD can't emit the warmth from a real fireplace blaze, my wife and I recently bought a mini heater fan to help prevent frozen pipes.
So maybe we can set the fan up in the living room when the DVD is playing.
