FARMINGTON — A registered sex offender who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing children he baby-sat was sentenced to prison Thursday.

Second District Judge Thomas L. Kay ordered Richard Anthony Siler to serve two consecutive terms of up to 15 years in prison for his guilty pleas to two counts of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.

Siler, 45, was arrested in November 2008 after a woman told police the Syracuse man may have sexually abused her daughter and several other children. Siler and his wife did not run a licensed day care, but rather baby-sat the children of friends and acquaintances, according to Syracuse police. Investigators said they identified three children who were sexually abused.

Siler is listed on the Utah Department of Corrections' sex offender registry for attempted sex abuse of a child following a 1999 conviction. However, he was not on probation or parole at the time of the most recent abuse.
