The state has launched a new Web site listing volunteer opportunities.

The site,, was announced Tuesday by Lt. Gov. Greg Bell and his office's Utah Commission on Volunteers.

"Volunteerism is the lifeblood of our state and provides significant economic and social value for our citizens and communities," Bell said.

The lieutenant governor said Utah has made volunteering "part of our culture, who we are, and one of the reasons we as a state are better able to weather the current economic storm."

Shar Lewis, the volunteer commission's executive director, said there are thousands of volunteer opportunities already listed on the site at some 700 organizations.
