LAUSANNE, Switzerland — The International Olympic Committee is considering the elimination of endurance events in track cycling and the addition of mixed doubles in tennis for the 2012 London Games.
The IOC executive board, which begins a two-day meeting Wednesday, will rule on requests by sports federations for changes in their 2012 programs.
Most contentious are the proposals in cycling, including dropping the individual pursuit race. Dozens of cyclists have spoken out against the elimination of the pursuit, one of the iconic events of the sport.
The IOC also plans to reallocate two of the three individual medals stripped from Marion Jones for doping at the 2000 Sydney Games. It plans to withhold the gold from disgraced Greek sprinter Katerina Thanou.
