BOISE (AP) — A central Idaho man has been charged with four misdemeanors after police say he took his neighbor's dog to an elementary school playground and slit its throat.

The Valley County Prosecutor's Office says 48-year-old Robert Roby could face a more serious charge after the dog's value is assessed, because the intent to deprive an owner of more than $1,000 in property is a felony.

Roby has been charged with animal cruelty, malicious injury to property, disturbing the peace and trespassing in connection to the incident, which the dog survived.
