SANDY — A domestic dispute on Sunday ended with a Sandy man in jail.

The man was arguing with his girlfriend at home about 7:30 a.m., and when the fight turned physical, the 25-year-old woman called to have a friend pick her up, according to Sandy Police Lt. Justin Chipman.

The boyfriend assaulted the friend when he arrived and knocked him out, Chipman said. He then allegedly took the man's car and drove off with his girlfriend inside.

An officer located the car at a gas station at 10600 S. 700 East and arrested a man at gunpoint.

The woman was taken to an area hospital with facial injuries. Her friend suffered only minor injuries.

Richard Velarde, 30, was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of robbery, domestic assault and kidnapping.
