Salt Lake police Friday were looking for a man in a carjacking at the Avenues Smith's.

About 1 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was in his car in the underground parking at Smith's, on E Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, said Salt Lake police detective Jeff Bedard.

A man came up to the car, knocked on his window and asked for money, Bedard said. The teen gave the man $5, and the man responded by pulling out a pocketknife with a green handle and 4-inch blade. He told the teen to get out of the car, Bedard said.

The boy complied, and the man got into his car and took off. The teen ran after the car yelling, "Someone took my car," Bedard said. The car was found at around 6:45 in the parking lot of the Chateau Motel, 1999 W. North Temple.
