MILFORD, Beaver County (AP) — A Massachusetts-based company says it will operate 159 giant wind turbines in Utah's west desert and send the power to southern California.

First Wind LLC will install the wind turbines — each 262 feet tall — across 40 square miles of public and private land 10 miles northeast of Milford.

First Wind, formerly known as UPC Wind, has operations around the country and held an open house Thursday on its plans to build Utah's largest wind farm.

Beaver County officials say the wind farm could bring in $1 million a year in taxes and other revenue.

The company, based in Newton, Mass., says it expects to win a construction permit within 30 days but doesn't know when it will get started.
