DETROIT — Outfielder Carl Crawford was activated from the disabled list by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday after sitting out 1 1/2 months because of a finger injury that required surgery.

Crawford injured a tendon in the middle finger of his right hand on Aug. 9 when he checked his swing while batting against Seattle. He was operated on five days later. Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said Crawford would be used for pinch running or as a late-inning defensive replacement during this weekend's final regular-season series with the Tigers.
