The Utah Rivers Council is kicking off its second annual "Ripper of the Year" contest.

The contest, sponsored by Staker Parson Landscape Centers, recognizes those who have removed lawn from their parking strips and replaced it with a water-wise landscape.

Businesses, residents and community groups are eligible to to compete for a $500 prize.

To enter the contest, participants must make a pledge to rip their strip at and then follow the links to the contest entry form. The entry deadline is Wednesday.
