TAYLORSVILLE — A 16-month-old boy who was flown to the hospital in critical condition after nearly drowning Tuesday afternoon has died.

Jackson Rich was in the backyard of his family's home near 1300 West and 200 South, when he wandered away from his mother, said Taylorsville police detective Shannon Bennett. Rich was found face-down in a decorative water pond in the backyard.

The mother pulled the child out of the water and immediately performed CPR, Bennett said. She rushed to a neighbor's home and called 911. A helicopter transported Rich to Primary Children's Medical Center in critical condition. He died later that day, according to police.
