VARESE, Italy (AP) — American Levi Leipheimer is a hot favorite to take the gold in the cycling world championships time trial after winning both Spanish Vuelta time trials.

In the absence of Olympic and reigning two-time world champion Fabian Cancellara, Leipheimer's toughest challenge today could come from Michael Rogers of Australia, who is chasing a record fourth time-trial title.

After taking bronze in Beijing last month, Leipheimer is convinced he can do better along the winding roads in the hills of northern Italy.

"It suits my style of riding," he said. "It is hard to pick a winner, but I obviously have good form."
