The Salt Lake County clerk wants to remind voters that the deadline for mail-in voter registration is fast approaching, and it's coming earlier than it has in previous elections.

Oct. 6 is the last day potential voters can register via post to participate in the November general election.

"The state law was changed in 2006," said Clerk Sherrie Swensen. "I am concerned that people will miss the most convenient opportunity to register to vote."

After the Oct. 6 cutoff for registration by mail, anyone interested in qualifying to vote on Nov. 4 must register in person at the County Clerk's office by Oct. 20.

Mail-in voter registration forms are available on the clerk's Web site,, as well as at post offices, libraries and on page 48 of the Salt Lake white pages telephone directory. Additional information is available by phone at GOT VOTE (468-8683).
