Kevin Colley, Utah Grizzlies coach and director of hockey operations, announced Thursday that forward Matt Craig has signed with the team for the 2008-2009 season. Craig played for the Grizzlies from 2005-2007 before spending last season with the Idaho Steelheads.
Craig was an ECHL All-Star during his rookie season and earned AHL call-ups to the Manitoba Moose during his first two pro seasons in Utah as well. Last year, the Ontario native tallied 10 goals and 16 assists in 26 games with the Idaho Steelheads.
The Grizzlies open the 2008-2009 season Saturday, Oct. 18, at Idaho. The home-opening weekend for Utah is Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25, vs. Alaska at the E Center.
Meanwhile, seven members of the Grizzlies' team will be in the New York Islanders' training camp when it opens today in Moncton, New Brunswick.
The Grizzlies are the ECHL affiliate of the Islanders and their AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.
The Grizzlies' contingent includes goaltender Nathan Lawson, forwards
Micheal Haley, Tyler Haskins, Jason Pitton and Trevor Smith, and defensemen Jordan Hart and Andrew MacDonald.
