SALEM — Police arrested a Salt Lake City man Thursday in an Internet sting after he arranged a motel rendezvous with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

According to police reports, Salem police posed as 13-year-old girls, and the 64-year-old man initiated contact with them more than a month ago. After being told he was chatting with a minor, the man quickly asked if the girl would like to perform certain sex acts with him.

Police said they chatted with the man eight times before they finally arranged to meet with him Thursday. He instructed the girl on what to wear and described what he would like to do with her.

Police stationed themselves around the meeting place and took the man into custody when he showed up. Police said the man admitted he rented a hotel room in Provo for the night. He also told police he placed alcoholic beverages in the room for the girl to drink when they arrived.

Police booked the man into Utah County Jail on investigation of enticing a minor online. Bail has been set at $50,000 cash only.
