OREM — A gang fight in Orem that began with a broken window and escalated to gun shots has landed one man in jail.

Police say the 22-year-old man admitted to being a member of a street gang and was in a fight with a rival gang last Friday.

In the fight, the man and his fellow gang members had their vehicle's back window broken out by a beer bottle near 600 N. 400 West, police said.

In retaliation, police say the following day the man got a gun and fired shots at the apartment complex where rival gang members lived, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.

During the investigation, several witnesses gave police the same name for the shooter.

Police obtained a search warrant for the man's apartment and found shell casings inside that matched those found at the scene.

Officers also found more ammunition as well as drug paraphernalia in the man's room.

He was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault with a firearm, gang enhancement and possession of drug paraphernalia on $50,000 cash-only bail.
