FARMINGTON — The man charged in the cold case slaying of a Woods Cross woman has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.

Edward Lewis Owens, 57, was arraigned in 2nd District Court on Wednesday on the first-degree felony charge. A hearing has been scheduled for next week to discuss the case's status.

Owens is charged in the 1980 slaying of Karin Strom, 25. She was strangled inside her home. The case went unsolved for decades, until Woods Cross police reopened it and used DNA evidence that they claim links Owens to the crime.

Owens was charged last year with the same killing, but it was dismissed when Davis County prosecutors raised questions about their own evidence. It was refiled after new DNA test results came back.
