I wonder if Jim Matheson has realized yet what others have realized for a long time, that his plan to blame high gas prices on speculators is a smokescreen hiding the real culprits behind soaring energy costs. The latest data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission shows clearly that, if anything, speculators have driven oil prices down, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Will Matheson finally quit looking for scapegoats outside of Congress and work to remove the barriers that his congressional leaders continue to maintain against further oil exploration at home? He voted for Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House, the biggest obstacle to sensible energy policy in this country. Will he make a stand and insist that his party listen to the American people? If he doesn't, he certainly should not be elected to another term.
