University of Utah students and alumni will join other members of the community for the fifth annual Legacy of Lowell Service Day on Saturday.

The event is sponsored by the Lowell Bennion Community Service Center at the U. and is held in honor of Bennion, a former school professor and the first director of the Salt Lake University Institute of Religion.

The day's schedule consists of five separate service projects. Participants will meet for breakfast at 8 a.m. at Parkview Elementary School, 970 S. Emery St. (1170 West). From there, they will be transported to one of five different sites in the neighborhood for two-hour service activities. The projects include delivering donations to the Utah Food Bank, holding a literacy event and painting a house. Participants will then meet back at Parkview for an 11 a.m. luncheon and awards ceremony.

Members of the community are invited. Participants can meet at Parkview, or travel by bus from the Rice-Eccles Stadium parking lot at 8 a.m. For more information, call 581-4811.
