WOMEN'S SOCCER: Junior goalkeeper Emalee Rogers, of Centerville, has been named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Rogers posted back-to-back shutouts over the weekend, her first two shutouts of the year. She made five saves in a 2-0 victory against Utah State Friday night, then made three more in a double-overtime 0-0 draw on the road Sunday at Loyola Marymount.
With her eight total saves in 200 minutes of action, Rogers dropped her season goals-against-average more than half a point, improving from 2.07 to 1.53 per game following Sunday's scoreless tie.
Rogers is the first Ute soccer player to earn conference honors in 2008.
She and the rest of the Utah squad (2-5-1) are back in action this weekend as they take on Long Beach State at home Friday night at 7:30 p.m., then host No. 21 Cal State Fullerton Sunday at 1 p.m.
MEN'S GOLF: The Utes finished 13th in the final team standings of the Ron Moore Invitational on Tuesday at the Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver. Utah wound up with a final combined total of 897 strokes, adding a 305 on Tuesday to its first-day two-round total of 592.
