FOOTBALL: SUU linebacker D.J. Senter has earned this week's Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Week award for his play in the Thunderbirds' 46-10 loss at Montana last Saturday.

Senter, a senior from Las Vegas, tallied a personal- and team-season-high 17 tackles Saturday. He also got an interception that he returned 12 yards to set up a Thunderbird field goal. He was in on a sack and recorded a tackle for loss as well.

Senter's selection gives SUU players of the week each week this season, as punter Trevor Ward was named special teams player of the week following the Air Force game and receiver/return specialist Nick Miller got the special teams nod after the Thunderbirds' game against Adams State.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Thunderbirds dropped a 2-0 decision to UC Irvine on Monday afternoon. The loss keeps the SUU winless this season at 0-5-0, while UCI moves to 3-4-0.

Irvine lit the scoreboard in the 20th minute as Milana Shabestari dribbled to the goal and flipped the ball toward the near post as SUU keeper McKenzie Hadley stepped in the other direction.

The Thunderbirds looked to tie the game with a late flurry in the 43rd minute, recording three shots in 12 seconds before the ball was eventually pushed wide of the goal. Having dodged a bullet, the Anteaters took a 1-0 lead going into half time.
