Utah County residents are invited to attend a public meeting for the Provo Reservoir Canal Trail Environmental Assessment from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Junior High School, 810 N. 100 East.

The Provo River Water Users Association plans to enclose the entire length of the Provo Reservoir Canal, after which a proposed trail would be constructed by Utah County and participating cities Orem, Lindon, Pleasant Grove, Lehi, American Fork, Cedar Hills and Highland.

It has been proposed to construct a nonmotorized trail on top of the enclosed canal from 800 North in Orem to the state Route 92 crossing in Lehi, a length of 14.25 miles. Federal funds would be used to help build the trail, along with matching funds from cities involved.

The environmental assessment defines the scope of the project, alternatives, as well as any potential environmental impacts of the proposed project, and mitigation measures for environmental impacts. The project is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, the Utah Department of Transportation, and the Bureau of Reclamation. Those unable to attend the meeting may send comments about the draft assessment by Oct. 3. Comments may be e-mailed to [email protected] or [email protected]; faxed to 801-904-4100; or mailed to Provo Reservoir Canal Trail Project Team, c/o URS Corp., 756 E. Winchester St., Suite 400, Salt Lake City, UT 84107.
