Wasatch Community Gardens' Farmer's Formal takes place Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. at 163 Pierpont Ave. Proceeds from the dinner benefit Wasatch Community Gardens. Unlike most "formal" events, diners can come in their gardening overalls.
The dinner will celebrating the harvest season with dishes from local chefs and restaurants, using fresh seasonal ingredients. There will also be a silent auction and live music from Bueno Avenue Stringband.
Wasatch Community Gardens has provided community garden plots, youth gardening programs and free gardening workshops since 1989. Sixty community gardeners are able to grow and enjoy fresh produce and donate extra produce to local food banks. Tickets are $50 in advance, $65 at the door (359-2658 or www.wasatchgardens.org).
The Wing Coop earned an award for their hand-crafted wing sauces at the 2008 National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, N.Y., over Labor Day weekend. The Wing Coop competed against more than 30 restaurants from across the country.
With more than 75,000 attendees consuming more than 25 tons of wings, the 2008 National Buffalo Wing Festival had another record-breaking year. The Wing Coop has two Utah locations: 4095 S. Redwood Road and 3971 Wasatch Blvd. (www.wingcoop.com).
Metropolitan is now serving lunch. From 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. the restaurant will offer house-made pizza, fresh salads and sandwiches, as well as classic comfort food with a twist, such as lamb meatball pasta, chicken pot pie or shrimp pilaf. During the Downtown Dine O'Round, through Sept. 27, the Metropolitan is offering a two-course lunch special for $10 (364-3472).
Noodles & Company opened a restaurant last week in the northeast corner of South Towne Center at 10340 S. State. This makes eight Utah locations for the Colorado-based quick-casual noodle chain.As part of its grand-opening celebration, Noodles & Company hosted a pre-opening fundraiser on Wednesday to benefit The Sandy Club. Noodles & Company serves Asian, Mediterranean and American-style pasta dishes. It's a tip-free zone and is open 10 a.m.-10 p.m., seven days a week (www.noodles.com).
