Sandy Police Sgt. Victor Quezada said Sunday that investigators have yet to corroborate testimony from 16-year-old Robyn Atkinson and the 17-year-old boy she was found with Saturday after an Amber Alert triggered a massive search effort for the girl by law enforcement and volunteers.
Atkinson, who has a learning disability, was reported missing Friday after she failed to return home from Alta High School. An endangered person advisory issued Saturday morning was upgraded to an Amber Alert by Sandy Police Chief Stephen Chapman later in the day as concern mounted for the missing girl. A tip phoned in to a Sandy police hotline late in the afternoon led to the girl's recovery at a residence in Sandy.
The 17-year-old boy was questioned by Sandy police and released late Saturday.
Quezada said the investigation is ongoing and evidence will be reviewed Monday by the district attorney's office to determine what, if any, charges may be filed in connection with the incident.
