The mother of a 15-year-old boy who was allegedley behind the wheel of a van that ran over and killed a child Aug. 21 at a Saratoga Springs school bus stop was charged Friday with negligent homicide, having no insurance and permitting an unlicensed driver to operate a motor vehicle. All three charges are misdemeanors.
Saratoga Springs police say the boy was driving the van that struck 4-year-old Cooper Mardesich as he crossed a street on his bicycle after he and his mother saw a sibling off to school. Police said the minor driver could be facing charges through their Juvenile Division.
Mardesich died at Primary Children's Medical Center shortly after being airlifted from the scene of the accident.
