The Army's ongoing restructuring means the Utah National Guard's I Corps Artillery will be deactivated this weekend, resulting in the activation of the 65th Fires Brigade.
The switch will take place during a change of command ceremony at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Camp Williams parade field. Brig. Gen. Michael Liechty will hand command over to Lt. Col. Richard Miller.
The Utah Guard's unit transformation is part of an Army master plan to reorganize its fighting force "to a more mobile, responsive and modular organization," Guard officials said in a statement.
Recently the 115th Engineer Group became the 115th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade.
