CEDAR CITY (AP) A judge has delayed the trial of a Cedar City man accused of shooting a police officer.
Bryan Featherhat was scheduled for trial next week on first-degree felony charges of attempted aggravated murder and aggravated robbery and one count of second-degree felony theft.
Prosecutors say Featherhat shot and wounded Cedar City police officer Jason Thomas twice with a 12-gauge shotgun in January 2007. Thomas had stopped to assist Featherhat after his pickup truck slid off an icy road.
Thomas recovered from the injuries.
On Tuesday a 5th District judge delayed the five-day trial until Nov. 17 because a mental evaluation of Featherhat is incomplete. The evaluation by the state Department of Human Services seeks to determine a person's mental state at the time of an alleged crime.
