Police are warning the public to be on the lookout for a man who escaped from Mesa County Detention Facility in Colorado on Monday and could be on his way to Utah.
According to police, 40-year-old Shane Edward Johnson, of Clifton, Colo., escaped from the detention center by hiding in the exercise yard until all the inmates were taken inside for evening lockdown. Investigators said Johnson also used a ruse in his cell to give the appearance of a sleeping individual so no one would know he was missing.
Police said Johnson has associates in Utah, southern California, Nevada and Colorado Springs and it is likely he's traveling to one of those locations. Police are also seeking his wife, Marilynne Ann (Beaman) Johnson, 46, of Colorado Springs, for questioning.
Johnson is described as a white male, 6-feet 3-inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds. He has blue eyes, a shaved head and a stocky build. He was recently convicted on more than a dozen multiple felony charges and is currently awaiting sentencing on what is believed to be nearly 150 years in prison.
Police advise Johnson is considered dangerous and urges members of the public to call 911 if they see him.
