The spectacle of Sarah Palin, the avid hunter who can field dress a moose, is a reminder of how far the Republican Party has strayed from its past. President Teddy Roosevelt could do all of that but, unlike Palin, he had a strong conservation ethic. Roosevelt created 18 national monuments, 51 wildlife refuges, five national parks and he protected 230 million acres of national land.

Palin, in contrast, has supported oil drilling anywhere and everywhere, including the fishing grounds of Bristol Bay and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. In the midst of voluminous scientific research, she refuses to believe that climate change is human induced. She has abandoned conservative ideals that encourage the protection and preservation of our country. Indeed, she is an avid hunter and she has drawn a bead on our national heritage and our future.
