The West Valley city manager was honored with his military reserve battalion on Saturday for meritorious service in Afghanistan.
Wayne Pyle served overseas for one year in 2006 and 2007 in the 405th Civil Affairs Battalion, according to West Valley City spokesman Aaron Crim. Pyle was one of the Army's ambassadors to the world.
The battalion was presented with a battle streamer and silk banner to add to its flag. The historic decorations signify the unit's combat service.
While overseas, Pyle helped complete dozens of medical assistance missions, Crim said. He also worked on construction and rehabilitation projects in Afghan villages.
