MIDVALE — A 7-year-old girl was rushed to Primary Children's Medical Center Monday night after she was struck by a car.

Sandy Police Lt. Bill O'Neal said the girl suffered critical injuries after she ran out into the road near 400 E. 7800 South and was struck by a car at about 6 p.m. O'Neal said the driver couldn't stop in time and tried to swerve but was unable to avoid hitting her. Police are uncertain why the girl ran into the street.

O'Neal said the girl has been taken to Primary Children's Medical Center.

The accident is still under investigation, but he said there doesn't appear to be any wrongdoing on the driver's part.
