KATHRYN LECHEMINANT, Layton, volleyball: This senior is leading her team in nearly every statistical category there is.

"She brings us experience and leadership," said Lancer head coach Ricci Vowles. "She leading in kills and blocks."

Her strength isn't just that she's a powerful hitter.

"She's a very smart player," said Vowles. "She places her hits very well. She makes good court decisions...She just gets the job done."

The honor student is helping the Lancers get off to one of their best starts in years with an 8-0 record.

BRENNAN BIGELOW, Green River, baseball: This senior pitcher/catcher is leading Green River's baseball team in a variety of ways. On Friday, he threw 11 strikeouts and hit a walk-off double in the Pirates' 2-1 win over Tintic.

Bigelow, who missed his sophomore season because of a serious shoulder injury, is 5-2 on the mound this season. He recently was the winning pitcher in both games of a doubleheader sweep over Wasatch Academy. He is hitting .444, has 11 RBIs and scored 16 runs this season.

"He is a great team leader," said coach Greg Parsons. "He always is working hard and helping his younger teammates improve. He is really beginning to get back into form."
