Paul Rivera

CLEARFIELD — Police are searching for a man in the robbery of an adult novelty store in Clearfield last week.

Clearfield police say a man caught on surveillance video and identified as Paul Rivera, 26, of Layton, entered the Black Velvet Boutique at 293 S. State about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and demanded cash from the female clerk. They said he pulled a revolver from his waistband.

Police say the woman gave the gunman an undisclosed amount of cash and then complied with orders to fill garbage bags with store merchandise, including adult novelties and movies.

After forcing the woman to help him load the merchandise into her car, the man ordered the employee at gunpoint to handcuff herself to a back wall, using a pair of handcuffs from the store's inventory, police said. The man fled in the woman's car as she freed herself and called 911, police said.

Clearfield police said the car was found abandoned at a nearby apartment complex. A search of the area was unsuccessful.

Police are asking anyone with information about Rivera's whereabouts to call 801-525-2806.
