BALTIMORE (AP) — The Oakland Athletics recalled right-hander Jeff Gray from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday to provide help to an overworked bullpen.

Gray joined the team for its series against the Baltimore Orioles. He has never pitched in the major leagues.

Gray went 2-7 with a 4.39 ERA in 54 games with Sacramento. He had four saves and 50 strikeouts in 67 2-3 innings.

"He's had a nice year," A's manager Bob Geren said, adding that Gray has been used in middle relief and as a closer.

Oakland played in a doubleheader on Thursday and has another scheduled Saturday, weather permitting.
