I am writing in response to "No Utah welcome mat for illegals?" (Aug. 27) by Leigh Dethman. Sen. Bill Hickman wishes to remind us we are a nation of laws. We are a nation of laws, but the good senator forgot the second part, which is "justice." We are a nation of law and justice. Every ninth-grader knows that "justice," briefly put, is an "impartial law impartially administered." Every legislator knows — or should know — that we have an immigration system in our country that is simply not working because of the laws concerning immigration.

Senate Bill 81 comes from seemingly well-intended folks, but it reads a lot like good old-fashioned prejudice.
