I am writing in response to "No Utah welcome mat for illegals?" (Aug. 27) by Leigh Dethman. Sen. Bill Hickman wishes to remind us we are a nation of laws. We are a nation of laws, but the good senator forgot the second part, which is "justice." We are a nation of law and justice. Every ninth-grader knows that "justice," briefly put, is an "impartial law impartially administered." Every legislator knows or should know that we have an immigration system in our country that is simply not working because of the laws concerning immigration.
Senate Bill 81 comes from seemingly well-intended folks, but it reads a lot like good old-fashioned prejudice.
