OGDEN — School's in and the number of traffic tickets for speeding drivers is up in Ogden.

On the first day of school last week, Ogden police issued 26 speeding tickets in school zones — and there's no sign of letting up.

Sgt. Chad Ledford says officers are giving out tickets in school zones as fast as they can write them.

He says some drivers don't know that school is back in session, but those who get tickets are getting the hint. Most of the speeding around schools subsides, though, after the first few weeks.

Tickets for speeding in a school zone in Ogden can be pricey: starting at $99.50 for a first offense. Fines are higher for those with multiple convictions.
