MIDVALE — A drunk Midvale man was booked into jail early Sunday morning following a police standoff at his home.

The incident began when the man and his wife began arguing at a downtown bar. The man kicked his wife out of the car as they were driving home, said Midvale Police Sgt. Marcelo Rapela.

When the woman eventually returned home in the 8500 South block of Kolby Lane, the argument continued. At some point, the husband threatened the woman with a gun and she decided to leave, Rapela said.

"He pointed the gun at her while she was in the car and told her not to leave," the sergeant said.

The woman was eventually able to leave and police were notified about 9:30 p.m. Officers were unable to make contact with the man inside his house and a SWAT team was called out. After surrounding the house, officers eventually spoke with the man and convinced him to surrender peacefully more than two hours later, Rapela said.

The man, 32, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault. Neither the man nor the woman were injured.

Rapela said police records did not indicate any previous domestic incidents at the house.
