HAYDEN, Idaho (AP) — A plane has crashed near a Hayden elementary school in the northern Idaho.

Coeur d'Alene School District spokeswoman Janet Feiler says there were no children at Atlas Elementary School during the time of the crash on Friday and no employees were hurt.

Feiler says a plane clipped the back of the building before it crashed near the school's playground.

KHQ-TV reports the pilot was flying an experimental, ultra-light plane and was killed during the crash.

Feiler says a preliminary inspection of the school indicates "no significant damage" and classes will begin next week as scheduled.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office has responded to the scene of the crash.
