Jay Evensen's column, "Lowering legal drinking age an absurd idea" (Aug. 24), misses the mark concerning 18-year-old men and women.

Today's society allows 18-year-olds to vote.

They are in the armed services.

They can secure loans. They can marry.

They can own real estate and automobiles and guns.

But according to your editorial, they are not mature enough to drink alcohol until they are 21. We believe God has given us "agency" to make decisions. I'm sure 18-year-olds can make the right decisions.
