PORTLAND, Ore. — The Salt Lake Bees moved a step closer to winning the Pacific Northern Division title, as they defeated the Portland Beavers 6-3 in the second game of a twi-night doubleheader on Tuesday night. That reduced the Bees magic number to one.

Kendry Morales drove in two runs with a ground out and a double, while Freddy Sandoval added two hits and one RBI. The Bees jumped in front with two runs in the first, one in the second and three in the third. Matt Wilhite (7-0) tossed one and 1/3 scoreless innings for the win and Darren O'Day tossed a 1 2/33 seventh inning for his seventh save.

In game one, major league veteran Shawn Estes combined with Edwin Moreno on a three hitter as the Beavers shut out the Bees 2-0. The game was scoreless until the fifth when Portland broke through with two runs on a run scoring triple by Matt Antonelli and an RBI single by Brett Dowdy. Giancarlo Alvarado (7-5) took the loss despite giving up just two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Chris Walker had two of the three hits for Salt Lake.
