LOGAN (AP) — Utah State University is getting a new emergency notification system.

University police say the new alarm system could be ready to go across campus by October.

Police Chief Steve Meacham says the new system will alert students and faculty electronically in the event of an emergency. He says it will use a combination of messaging techniques to inform those on campus about potentially dangerous situations.

That includes text messages, calls to cell phones and land lines and even printed messages for students with hearing impairments.

Meacham says he hopes the school never has to use the system, but it's good to have just in case.
