JUNIOR COLE, Northridge, football: Cole was outstanding in his first varsity start at quarterback for the Northridge Knights.

He completed 14-of-21 passes for 214 yards and three touchdowns in Northridge's thrilling 41-37 win over Jordan on Friday. He also rushed 14 times for 86 yards and had two running scores.

Cole showed uncommon poise for a player of his experience. He hooked up with receiver Chris Washington for the game-winning score. Cole threw Washington a 7-yard touchdown pass with 7.4 seconds left. It was Cole's fourth completion to Washington in the game.

JULIA POTTS, Carbon, volleyball: Passing is key to winning in volleyball, that is, unless you have a setter like Potts.

"She's probably the most athletic girl on the team," said Dinos head coach Cristen Johnson. "If the ball is even close, she can get it. She's got great hands."

Potts led the Dinos to an impressive third-place finish in the Skyline Tournament of Champions last weekend. And it isn't just the honor student's athletic skill that elevates the play of her teammates.

"She's a second coach on the floor," Johnson said. "She calls the plays and is the team leader out there. She's a fun jokester and keeps the team loose."
