A man crossing the street in a wheelchair was hit and critically injured by a suspected drunken driver Thursday night.

Just after 10:30 p.m., 56-year-old George Donald was being pushed across North Temple near 2000 West in his wheelchair by his wife, when he was struck by a westbound vehicle, according to Salt Lake City police.

Donald was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. His wife was not injured. A 47-year-old woman was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of DUI and negligent collision.
