FARMINGTON — Although many of the top golfers in the state and the Intermountain area were playing, the largest gallery at Friday's Siegfried & Jensen Utah Open followed a tall, long-haired, lanky fellow in the gray shirt and black pants.

Utah Jazz guard Kyle Korver is playing in the tournament on a sponsor's exemption, and he attracted a pretty good following in the opening round.

When his group made the turn, an announcement had to be made asking fans to not bother the golfers in between shots even though Korver said later the attention from a few fans didn't bother him. He said it was different playing tournament golf but that he thoroughly enjoyed himself.

I had a blast today, I had so much fun, he said. I started off with a par and said 'here we go.' Then the second hole — nine. That's a bit of a buzzkill. I didn't putt well. These greens were a little bit faster than I normally play.

Korver ended up shooting a 13-over-par 85, which beat two professionals and left him in a tie for 156th place. Today he tees off at 9:30 a.m.
