PROVO — Whether based around holiday celebrations or gospel principles, family traditions unify and help preserve what is unique about a family, providing a foundation for children to deal successfully with life's challenges and to know their place in the world.

V-Ann Ludlow told a Campus Education Week audience at Brigham Young University this week that her own children have incorporated many of the traditions into their families that she and her husband established in their home. But as a young married couple, she and her husband both simply assumed the traditions they had brought from their parents' homes would be followed in their own marriage.
