NEW YORK (AP) — Clothing retailer Aeropostale Inc. said Thursday that it expects to earn between 59 cents and 61 cents per share during the third quarter — a roughly 24 percent increase from the same period last year — and in line with Wall Street estimates.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect the New York-based retailer to earn 60 cents per share on revenue of $471.5 million.

Separately Thursday, Aeropostale said its second-quarter profit grew 43 percent as comparable-store sales climbed.

For the three months ending Aug. 2, the retailer earned $21.1 million, or 31 cents per share. That compares to a profit of $14.7 million, or 19 cents per share, during the same period last year.

Sales rose 21 percent to $377.1 million, from year-ago revenue of $311.2 million.

Aeropostale shares fell 25 cents, or 0.7 percent, to $34.00 in Thursday trading.
